Patna, January 3, 2026: Chief Justice of India Surya Kant on Saturday laid the foundation stone for several key infrastructure projects within the Patna High Court premises, marking a significant milestone in strengthening Bihar’s judicial system.
The event is being viewed not merely as a ceremonial occasion, but as a historic step towards modernizing and humanizing the justice delivery system in the state.
CJI Surya Kant laid the foundation stone for the construction of an Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) building, a multi-level car parking facility, a hospital building, an auditorium, an annex building for the Advocate General’s office, residential buildings, and a dedicated Information Technology (IT) building within the High Court complex.
CJI Surya Kant said that these projects aim to make the judicial process faster, more accessible, and technologically advanced.
While the ADR building is expected to promote amicable and time-bound resolution of disputes outside conventional court proceedings, the IT building will strengthen the judiciary’s digital infrastructure and enable it to keep pace with evolving technological demands.
Many Justices of the Supreme Court and Patna High Court were present along with CJI Surya Kant:
Apart from CJI Surya Kant, the presence of Supreme Court justices Ahsanuddin Amanullah and Rajesh Bindal added further importance to the occasion. Several senior judges, advocates, and administrative officials, including Acting Chief Justice of the Patna High Court Justice Sudhir Singh, were present at the ceremony.
The newly appointed Chief Justice of Patna High Court joined the event virtually:
The newly appointed Chief Justice of the Patna High Court, Justice Sangam Kumar Sahu, joined the program virtually, reflecting institutional continuity and the collective commitment of the judiciary towards reform and development.
In legal and political circles, the initiative is being seen as a strong signal of judicial infrastructure expansion, achieved through coordinated efforts between the judiciary and the government.
The new facilities are expected to bring significant relief to litigants, lawyers, judges, and visitors.
The proposed hospital building will ensure quick medical assistance within the court campus, while facilities such as multi-level parking and an auditorium will help address long-standing logistical challenges faced by members of the legal fraternity and the public.
Overall, the foundation stone-laying ceremony reflects a broader vision for Bihar—one in which justice is not confined to verdicts alone, but is supported by modern infrastructure, dignity, accessibility, and efficiency, ensuring that the path to justice is smoother and more humane for all.
