Chitranjan Gagan claimed CM Nitish Kumar misled Bihar on special status.

Patna, August 16: Chitranjan Gagan,, the spokesperson of RJD, accused Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar of misleading the public regarding the demand for special status for Bihar during his Independence Day speech at Gandhi Maidan Patna.

Gagan claimed that Nitish Kumar falsely stated that he had raised the demand for special category status after becoming Chief Minister in 2005.

To counter Kumar’s claim, Chitranjan Gagan released two photographs showing former CM Rabri Devi with Late Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

“The first photograph, dated February 3, 2002, was taken during the foundation stone of the Digha-Sonepur bridge. During that event, Rabri Devi had formally requested special status for Bihar from PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee in the public meeting held at Patna’s Gandhi Maidan,” Gagan said.

Chitranjan Gagan’s remarks were intended to assert that the demand for special status was raised by RJD much earlier than Nitish Kumar’s tenure, challenging the accuracy of the Chief Minister’s statements and suggesting that he was taking undue credit.

Chitranjan Gagan further substantiated his claims against Bihar CM Nitish Kumar by releasing another photograph from May 2002.

In this image, Rabri Devi is seen alongside RJD MP late Raghuvansh Prasad Singh, Professor Ramdev Bhandari, Premchand Gupta, Saroj Dubey and Vijay Yadav., meeting with then-PM Vajpayee. During that meeting, they presented Vajpayee with a copy of a resolution regarding the demand for special status for Bihar. The resolution had been unanimously passed in the Bihar assembly on April 2, 2002,” Gagan said.

He emphasized that on May 16, 2002, a discussion was held in the Lok Sabha under Rule 193, initiated by Raghuvansh Prasad Singh, where MPs from all parties expressed their support for granting special status to Bihar.

Gagan accused the JD (U), of betraying the people of Bihar by compromising on the demand for the special status in negotiations with the BJP.
