Chirag Paswan will contest the Hajipur seat in the Lok Sabha election 2024.

Patna, March 20, 2024: Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) national president Chirag Paswan announced that he will contest the Hajipur (SC) Lok Sabha seat in the upcoming 2024 general elections, a constituency once represented by his late father and party founder Ram Vilas Paswan.

Following a meeting of the party’s national parliamentary board in Patna, Chirag said, “The board members unanimously finalized my name as the NDA candidate from Hajipur. It is the workplace of my father, and I will carry forward his legacy from this seat.

Chirag, who contested the 2019 election from Jamui, will now face a high-stakes battle in Hajipur, where his estranged uncle Pashupati Kumar Paras—who represented the constituency last time—has also announced his candidature. Voting in Hajipur will be held in the fifth phase on May 20, 2024.

Chirag Paswan’s party will challenge Paras:

Chirag added that the board has authorized him to take all key decisions for the party, which will contest five seats in Bihar. Candidate names will be finalized within the next five to six days.

When asked about the possible face-off with Paras, Chirag said, “I am ready to take every challenge in the coming days. He always claimed he would stay with Prime Minister Narendra Modi till the end of his life—now he should prove it. He is responsible for the situation he faces in this election.”

The Hajipur contest is set to be one of Bihar’s most closely watched battles, pitting nephew against uncle in a fight that carries both political and emotional weight for the Paswan family.
