Patna, June 7, 2025: Union Minister for Food Processing and LJP (Ram Vilas) Chief Chirag Paswan on Saturday hinted that he may contest the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections, but said the final decision will rest with the party’s Parliamentary Board.
Chirag Paswan’s comments came during his visit to Patna, where speculation over his return to state politics has been intensifying.
Responding to media queries, Chirag said, “Discussions are underway about whether I will contest the assembly elections or not. The Parliamentary Board of my party will take the final decision.”
Chirag Paswan hinted to return to Bihar politics:
His statement comes amid strong endorsements from within his party. Jamui MP Arun Bharti, who is also Chirag’s brother-in-law, recently said that party workers and the people of Bihar see Chirag Paswan as their hope, urging him to shift focus from central politics to Bihar.
The party has been actively projecting him as a potential chief Ministerial face, though Chirag Paswan has sought to downplay this.
Dismissing speculation about his political ambitions causing discomfort within the NDA alliance, Paswan said: “If I contest the assembly elections, the reason will be to strengthen the strike rate of my party and the NDA. This is not the first even cabinet ministers have contested Lok Sabha elections to energize the party base and improve performance. It should not be seen as a move to create a rift or challenge the alliance.”
He added that his aim is aligned with the NDA’s larger goal of returning to power in Bihar.
“Have faith this time too, a stronger government will be formed under the leadership of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar,” he said.
Attacks on Rahul Gandhi:
Chirag Paswan also took a swipe at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, accusing him of repeatedly questioning the electoral process after defeats.
“Every time Rahul Gandhi loses, he blames the EVMs. He should reflect on why the public keeps rejecting a party that ruled for over 50 years since independence,” Paswan said.
He further criticized Gandhi’s recent remarks targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the ceasefire issue, saying: “The opposition has no real issues to raise. Making baseless statements against the Prime Minister is not constructive. Raise concrete and meaningful issues instead.
With Assembly elections scheduled for October-November 2025, all major parties in Bihar are ramping up their preparations.
