Patna, October 28, 2025: The four-day Chhath Puja, a major festival of folk faith, concluded peacefully on Tuesday morning as devotees across Bihar offered Arghya (Offering) to the rising sun god (Lord Surya), marking the end of this grand celebration of devotion, purity, and discipline.

In the first rays of dawn, devotees stood at riverbanks and ponds, offering milk, water, and seasonal fruits to the Sun God before breaking their 36-hour waterless fast.

The ritual concluded with devotees drinking tea mixed with ghee, symbolizing the completion of their penance.

Leaders of Bihar also celebrated the Chhath festival:

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar observed the Chhath rituals at his official residence, 1 Anne Marg, along with his son Nishant Kumar and other family members.

Union Minister Chirag Paswan also celebrated the festival with his family, offering Arghya to the rising sun. Deputy Chief Ministers Vijay Kumar Sinha and Samrat Choudhary, along with ministers Nitin Naveen, Ashok Choudhary, and Sanjay Mayukh, also performed the rituals at their residences.

The four-day festival began with Nahay-Khay, followed by Kharna Puja, where devotees prepared Kheer, Roti, and Banaba as offerings. The next two days were dedicated to the 36-hour Nirjala fast, with offerings made first to the setting sun on Monday and finally to the rising sun on Tuesday.

Celebrated during the Kartik Shukla Paksha, the festival, also known as Shardiya Chhath, symbolizes life force, health, and prosperity.

Devotees offered Thekua, seasonal fruits, and Prasad in Shup while standing in rivers, ponds, and lakes.

To maintain the sanctity of the festival, the district administration, along with local youth, organized a cleanliness drive and decorated the Ghats with attractive lighting.

Traditional Chhath songs resonated across the riverbanks, creating a deeply spiritual atmosphere.

Security measures during the Chhath festival at Ghats:

Ensuring safety and order, the administration deployed police personnel, ND%RF, and SDRF teams, supervised by magistrates at all major ghats.

Uninterrupted power supply and close monitoring by senior officials—including the District Magistrates, SSPs, SPs, and local leaders—ensured that millions of devotees celebrated the festival peacefully and without incident.

This year too, the Chhath festival reaffirmed its enduring message of faith, purity, environmental protection, and social harmony.
