Patna, October 30, 2025: The Central government has announced elaborate celebrations to mark the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, with a grand parade and a run for unity event to be held at Kevadia (Ekta Nagar) in Gujarat.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah, addressing a press conference in Patna on Wednesday, said that the government will commemorate the occasion in a “historic and inspirational” manner to honour the Iron Man of India’s unmatched contribution in uniting the nation after Independence.

Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel has immense contribution in uniting India:

We all know the immense contribution of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel in uniting the country after independence, in building modern India, and in creating a unified India. Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s 150th birth anniversary is tomorrow. Since 2014, the Prime Minister has been visiting Kevadia every year, and a grand Parade is organized in front of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s magnificent statue on his anniversary,” Shah said.

Amit Shah announced that, beginning this year, the Home Ministry has decided to organize the Parade every year on October 31, in front of the Statue of Unity, to honor India’s paramilitary and police forces.

“This parade is held in honor of all the Central Paramilitary Forces and the police forces of every state, reaffirming the nation’s unity and integrity,” Shah said.

Nationwide “Run for Unity” and pledge ceremony:

Highlighting the scale of this year’s celebrations, Shah said a nationwide “Run of Unity” will be held across the country—from schools and universities to districts and police stations.

“The Run for Unity will be organized in all the states, union territories, districts, police stations, schools, and universities. After the run, a program has also been organized where every citizen will take a pledge for the unity and integrity of the nation,” he said.

Shah also announced that a special Bharat Parv (India festival) will be held at Ekta Nagar from November 1 to 15, coinciding with the birth anniversary of Bhagwan Birsa Munda.

The festival will culminate on November 15 with a celebration of tribal culture and traditions.

Taking a swipe at the Congress, the Home Minister alleged that previous governments had neglected Sardar Patel’s contribution.

“After Sardar Patel’s passing, the Congress party tried to erase his legacy, delaying his Bharat Ratna by 41 years and denying him any memorial. It was only after Narendra Modi became the Chief Minister of Gujarat that he launched the vision of the Statue of Unity and established the Sardar Patel Memorial,” he said.

Amit Shah described Sardar Patel not merely as a leader but as “an ideology and the organizational backbone of India’s freedom struggle.”

“It was from there that Mahatma Gandhi bestowed upon him the title of ‘Sardar,’” he noted.
