Patna, October 14, 2025: The Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday announced the first list of 71 candidates for the upcoming Bihar Assembly election 2025.

The list includes several heavyweight leaders, among them both incumbent and former Deputy Chief Ministers.

The party has fielded Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary to contest from Tarapur in Munger district and Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha from Lakhisarai.

Two former Deputy Chief Ministers have also found a place on the list—Tarkishore Prasad will contest from Katihar, and Renu Devi has been fielded from Bettiah in West Champaran district.

Interestingly, the BJP has not given the ticket to 7-time MLA and former speaker Nand Kishore Yadav. The party has replaced him with Ratnesh Kushwaha on the Patna Sahib seat.

International shooter and sitting MLA Shreyasi Singh has again been nominated from Jamui, reaffirming the party’s faith in her growing political influence.

BJP has given tickets to two ex-MPs:

Among other notable names, the BJP has given tickets to former MPs Ram Kripal Yadav from Danapur (Patna) and Sunil Kumar Pintu from Sitamarhi.

Ram Kripal Yadav was the MP from Patliputra Lok Sabha seat in 2019, while Pintu was the MP from Sitamarhi.

Ram Kripal Yadav lost the 2024 Lok Sabha election against Misa Bharti of RJD, while Pintu was denied a ticket as the seat went to the JDU fold after the seat-sharing adjustment in 2024. Devesh Chandra Thakur contested that election from Sitamarhi and reached the Lok Sabha.

Sidhartha Saurav, a former Congress rebel who contested the Bikram seat on the Congress ticket in 2020 before joining the NDA in 2024, has been rewarded with a BJP ticket from the same constituency.

He had played a key role in supporting the Nitish Kumar government during the crucial floor test earlier in February 2024.

Several ministers in the Nitish cabinet were also given tickets:

Other prominent candidates, including Health Minister Mangal Pandey, have been given tickets from Siwan, PHED Minister Neeraj Kumar Singh Bablu from Chatapur, Urban Development Minister Jivesh Kumar Mishra from Jale, Revenue and Land Reform Minister Sanjay Saraogi from  Darbhanga, Industry Minister Nitish Mishra from Jhanjharpur, Prem Kumar, the cooperative minister from Gaya City, BJP firebrand leader Haribhushan Thakur Bachaul from Bifsi in Madhubani district and others.

These leaders were holding the cabinet minister posts in the Nitish Kumar government.

With this list, the BJP has sought to balance experience, loyalty, and representation across regions and communities.

The announcement has intensified election activities within the NDA camp, as other alliance partners are expected to release their candidate lists soon.
