Bihar Chief Minister asked NHAI to complete the Patna-Gaya-Dobhi road till December.

Patna, September 23, 2024: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar inspected the under-construction Patna-Gaya-Dobhi four-lane road on Monday and directed officials to complete the project by December this year.

Once this road is finished, the 127 km long stretch will significantly reduce travel time between Patna and Gaya, allowing the journey to be covered in just two hours. The road starts from Patna and connects to Grand Trunk (GT) Road also known as National Highway 19 at Dobhi passing through Masaudhi, Jehanabad and Gaya.

While en route to Jehanabad on Monday, the Bihar Chief Minister inspected the Basuhar bridge in Punpun. He was accompanied by senior officials, including cabinet minister Ashok Choudhary, Principal Secretary to the Bihar Chief Minister Deepak Kumar, Additional Chief Secretary of the Road Construction Department Pratyay Amrit, National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) project director Ghulam Qadir and others.

“The Bihar Chief Minister instructed us to open at least one lane of the bridge by September 30, with the entire project to be completed by the end of December this year,” Qadir said.

The project, originally estimated to cost Rs 1600 crore, has faced numerous delays and is now projected to cost over Rs 5000 crore.

Despite being under the direct monitoring of the Patna High Court, progress lagged behind targets. However, with more than 90% of the work completed, hopes are high that the road will be fully operational by the end of this year.

This road is expected to significantly benefit commuters and facilitate easier travel for pilgrims heading to Gaya.

The construction of the Patna-Gaya-Dobhi four-lane road, which began in 2010, has faced numerous delays over the years, primarily due to construction agencies abandoning the projects midway and challenges in land acquisition.

However, after the Patna High Court took charge of monitoring the project, the pace of construction has picked up significantly.

Now, 14 years later, there is renewed hope that this long-delayed and ambitious infrastructure project will be completed by the end of 2024.
