Patna, October 21, 2025: The contest between the Grand Alliance and NDA has taken a glamorous turn, with both sides banking on the popularity of Bhojpuri film stars and folk singers to woo voters in the Bihar Assembly election 2025.

While several celebrities are contesting directly in the polls, others have been roped in as star campaigners, lending their star power to energize supporters and attract crowds during the campaign.

RJD bats big on Bhojpuri superstar Khesari Lal Yadav:

The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) has fielded Bhojpuri Superstar Khesari Lal Yadav from his hometown Chhapra, a key seat in the Saran district.

Khesari, one of the most popular actors and singers in the Bhojpuri industry, recently joined the RJD and is expected to leverage his massive fan following across Bhojpuri-speaking regions.

Apart from contesting the election, Khesari will also serve as a star campaigner for RJD.

A party insider said that after Tejashwi Yadav, he will be one of the most prominent faces on the campaign trail for the party.

Jan Suraj fielded Ritesh Pandey:

The Jan Suraj Party, led by Prashant Kishor, has also tapped into Bhojpuri stardom by fielding popular singer-actor Ritesh Pandey from Kargahar Assembly constituency in Rohtas district.

Kargahar is Pandey’s native area, and his local roots combined with his fame in Bhojpuri music are expected to help the party make inroads in the region.

BJP banks on Maithili Thakur:

The Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) has given a ticket to Maithili Thakur, a young and widely admired folk singer, from the Alinagar Assembly constituency in Darbhanga district.

A native of Darbhanga, Maithili rose to fame for her soulful renditions of Maithili and Bhojpuri songs.

She played an indirect role in the 2020 Assembly polls by singing songs in support of the NDA to counter Neha Singh Rathore’s viral track “Bihar Me Ka Ba.”

LJPRV faces a setback:

Lok Janshakti Party Ram Vilas (LJPRV) had nominated another Bhojpuri actress, Seema Singh, to contest from Marhaura Assembly constituency in Saran district, but her nomination was rejected due to technical errors, causing a setback to the party’s celebrity push.

Star campaigners across alliances:

Beyond candidates, several Bhojpuri stars are set to light up the campaign trail as star campaigners.

The BJP leads the pack, with its high-profile lineup, including Manoj Tiwari, Ravi Kishan and Dinesh Lal Yadav Nirahua—all actor-turned-politicians.

Power star Pawan Singh, who contested the 2024 Lok Sabha election as an independent candidate from Karakat, has also been brought in as a BJP star campaigner.

Despite losing the election, his massive fan base in the Shahabad region continues to draw political attention.

His wife Jyoti Singh is contesting as an independent candidate from Karakat Assembly constituency.

The entry of Bhojpuri and Maithili artists into the Bihar political arena reflects how parties are increasingly turning to cultural icons to connect with voters emotionally.

With the Assembly election campaign heating up, the performance of these celebrity candidates—both on the campaign trail and at the EVM—will be closely watched.
