Patna, May 5, 2024: Former Mokama MLA Anant Kumar Singh was released on 15-day parole from Beur jail in Patna early Sunday morning, after the Bihar Home Department approved his temporary release.
Anant Singh was released on 15 days parole:
Singh, who was convicted under the Arms Act and sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment by the MP-MLA court in Patna, walked out of jail at 4:45 am under court directions. Many of his supporters gathered outside the prison to welcome him. Soon after his release, Singh traveled to his native Barh in an ambulance.
With his release, the political dynamics in the Munger Lok Sabha constituency have taken an interesting turn. Singh, who won the 2020 Mokama Assembly election on an RJD ticket, lost his seat after his conviction. His wife Neelam Devi later contested the bypoll on an RJD ticket and won, but has since shifted allegiance, currently campaigning for JD-U candidate Lalan Singh in Munger.
During the February 12 floor test of the Nitish Kumar-led NDA government, Neelam Devi had backed JD-U, signaling her move towards the ruling alliance.
The RJD has fielded Anita Devi:
Meanwhile, the RJD has fielded Anita Devi, wife of another Bahubali leader, Ashok Mahto, making the Munger contest a clash between two Anant Singh’s families. Mahto, who recently married Anita Devi ahead of the polls, is actively campaigning for her.
Polling in Munger, along with Darbhanga, Ujiarpur, Samastipur (SC Reserved) and Begusarai, will be held in the fourth phase on May 13.
