Ashok Gehlot questions voter list revision ahead of Bihar elections 2025.

Patna, June 30, 2025: Politics in Bihar has intensified over the revision of the voter list ahead of the Bihar assembly elections, with sharp exchanges between the ruling NDA and the opposition.
Senior Congress leader former Rajasthan Chief Minister, and Congress working committee member Ashok Gehlot, who reached Patna on Monday, raised serious questions on the Election Commission’s intentions.
Speaking to reporters at Patna Airport, Ashok Gehlot said: “Before the Bihar assembly elections, the Election Commission is adopting new tricks. The question arises, what is the need to take such steps right before the elections?”
Ashok Gehlot raised concerns over documents and confusion among voters:
Gehlot questioned the timing and transparency of the voter list revision campaign.

“People from Bihar living in Delhi are asking us where they should bring their birth certificates from. This process is creating confusion among people,” he said. He demanded that the Election Commission should clarify the reasons for starting this process immediately and alleged that the exercise was being carried out without the consent of the opposition.
Opposition alleges conspiracy:
The opposition leaders in Bihar, including RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav, have consistently criticized the Election Commission’s move since the announcement of the revision campaign.

On Sunday, Tejashwi Yadav expressed concerns over the notification to prepare a new voter list of 8 crore voters within 25 days, alleging it was a conspiracy to remove the names of poor, Dalit, backward, extremely backward, tribal, and minority voters from the voter rolls.
Ashok Gehlot stated that the Congress and INDIA bloc parties will hold a detailed discussion on this matter, indicating that the voter list revision will be a major issue in the opposition’s campaign narrative ahead of the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections.
