Patna, October 23, 2025: Ending the weeks of speculation, former Rajasthan Chief Minister and Congress election in-charge for Bihar, Ashok Gahlot, on Thursday announced RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav as the Chief Ministerial face of the Grand Alliance for the upcoming Bihar Assembly election 2025.
Ashok Gahlot announced during the joint press conference of the Grand Alliance leaders at Hotel Maurya, Patna.
Along with Tejashwi’s name, he also declared that Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP) chief Mukesh Sahani would be appointed as Deputy Chief Minister if the alliance comes to power.
Ashok Gahlot further revealed that the alliance had decided to appoint two Deputy Chief Ministers in the future government—one being Sahani and the other from another constituent partner.
Ashok Gahlot asked Amit Shah to declare the CM face of NDA post-election:
“We have taken this decision unanimously based on the suggestions of Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge, Priyanka Gandhi and other senior leaders,” Gahlot said, while also challenging the BJP to declare its own CM face.
“I want to ask Amit Shah who will be your Chief Minister in Bihar post-election. We have seen in Maharashtra that the CM face before the election turned out to be someone else after the results,” Gahlot remarked.
Mukesh Sahani’s longstanding claim recognized:
The announcement fulfilled Mukesh Sahani’s long-standing demand for the Deputy CM post.
Even before the Grand Alliance’s seat-sharing agreement was finalized, Sahani had repeatedly referred to himself as the next Deputy Chief Minister during meetings and public events.
Following the official declaration, Sahani expressed satisfaction and said his struggle had finally been acknowledged.
“I have come this far after years of hard work. The Grand Alliance is united and stronger than ever,” he said.
Sahani also launched a strong attack on the BJP, accusing it of indulging in horse-trading and buying MLAs for power.
We will not stop until we defeat the BJP. The Grand Alliance will form the next government in Bihar,” he asserted.
The announcement of Tejashwi Yadav as CM face and Mukesh Sahani as Deputy CM is expected to strengthen the Grand Alliance’s social base, bringing together Yadav, Muslim, and Nishad communities ahead of the 2025 Bihar Assembly polls.
