Patna May 29: Around 50 students from three districts of Bihar fell sick inside school premises on Wednesday.
The victims are in the age group of 10 to 15. They suffered from heat stroke and were admitted to hospitals and are out of danger.
Despite the scorching heat in Bihar, there has been no summer holiday in the government schools so far. As a result, many children are constantly falling prey to the heat wave in the different districts these days.
Such incidents happened in Sheikhpura, Begusarai and East Champaran districts during school hours on Wednesday.
In Sheikhpura, around two dozen students fell unconscious inside the school premises of a government middle school located in Mankol village.
The teachers rescued them with the help of villagers and taken to the Sadar Hospital.
At the same time, angry villagers blocked the main road going to Chandi near Mankol village.
While sharing the health status of students, the family members said that the children had gone to school in the morning without eating anything.
“After 2 hours, the teachers informed us about the sickness of students in school. When we reached the school, we saw the children in an unconscious state on the school premises. Many children were crying loudly. We have arranged vehicles and rushed the students to the Sadar hospital,” said Ram Kumar Singh, a parent and a native of Mankol village.
In Begusarai, around 20 students fell sick due to intense heat as well. They were admitted to Sadar Hospital and undergoing treatment. Similarly in Motihari, when two students fell sick.
Following the incident, parents became angry in Sheikhpura and Begusarai. They have shouted slogans against KK Pathak, the additional chief secretary of the education department. They also threatened to boycott the school from Thursday.
“The officials of the education department are acting arbitrarily. Summer vacation is not being given even after so much heat. Due to school timing in the early morning, many children go to school with an empty stomach. Due to this, they are suffering from heat stroke,” said another parent Shanti Devi of Mankol village.
Dr. Rajnikant and Dr. Satyendra Kumar, who were looking after the treatment of the children said that the cause of the incident was dehydration.
“The children were sitting in a classroom where there was neither much air nor proper seating arrangement. Due to dehydration, the children started fainting one after the other. At present, the condition of every student is out of danger. Everyone has been given ORS and necessary medicines,” said Dr. Rajnikant of Sadar Hospital Sheikhpura.
