Anant Singh was released from Beur Jail Patna.
Patna, August 16: Anant Singh, the former MLA from Bihar’s Mokama constituency, was released from Beur jail on Friday morning following acquittal by the Patna High Court.
Anant Singh was released at 5.10 am. His release was marked by a significant gathering of supporters outside the jail, with his two sons present to welcome him back.
The Bahubali leader was booked under the Arms Act and Explosive Act in Patna’s Barh and Sachiwalay police station. The Patna police allegedly seized an AK 47 assault rifle, 22 live cartridges and two hand grenades from his ancestral village Nadma under Barh police station on June 24, 2015. Patna police also seized an INSAS rifle, a bulletproof jacket and some magazines from his Mall Road Residence in Patna as well.
Following the seizure, he was arrested by Patna police and in 2016 the MP-MLA court of Patna convicted him in these two cases. He was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment in June 2022.
However, he appealed in Patna High Court and Justice Chandra Shekher Jha acquitted him due to lack of evidence on August 14.
Anant Singh left the Beur jail in an ambulance before being transferred to an SUV. A large number of supporters were also present outside the jail, accompanying him as they headed towards Barahia block in Patna district. Singh made a stop at a temple in Barahiya to perform rituals, a significant act likely tied to his beliefs and demonstration of his return to public life.
Singh’s acquittal and subsequent release are a significant development in Bihar’s political landscape especially in the Mokama region, given his influence and history as a Bahubali leader.
Singh has been a prominent political figure in Bihar, serving as an MLA from the Mokama assembly seat multiple times, representing various parties including an independent, JD (U) and RJD candidate. After being convicted by the MP-MLA court in the Arms Act, his wife Neelam Devi won the by-election on RJD’s symbol.

Anant Singh was acquitted by Patna High Court in the arms act case.
However, in January this year, when Chief Minister Nitish Kumar left the Grand Alliance and formed the government with the NDA, Neelam Devi also shifted her allegiance during the trust vote.
During the Lok Sabha elections, Anant Singh was granted parole for 2 weeks. The opposition had accused Chief Minister Nitish Kumar of taking advantage of Anant Singh’s strongman image in the Munger Lok Sabha constituency. Although he did not campaign for JD (U) candidate Lalan Singh during the election, he openly talked about supporting him. Lalan Singh ultimately won the election and now he is a union minister.
Before returning to jail, Anant Singh had expressed confidence that he would be released permanently within a and a half months.
