Patna, May 17, 2024: While political heavyweights across the country are drawing crowds with high-energy rallies and road shows, an independent candidate from Bihar’s Gopalganj Lok Sabha constituency (SC Reserved) has taken a rather unconventional route—campaigning on a donkey.
An independent candidate, local sensation for electioneering:
Satyendra Baitha, an independent candidate from Gopalganj, has become a local sensation for his unique mode of electioneering. Curious voters are stepping out of their homes to catch a glimpse of his “donkey campaign.”
Explaining his choice, Baitha said, “As petrol and diesel prices are very high and unaffordable for people like me, I decided to campaign on a donkey and reach every doorstep to appeal for votes. I even rode the donkey to the collectorate office to file my nomination.”
A native of Shyampur village under Kuchaikot block, Baitha belongs to the washerman (Dhobi) community, for whom the donkey is considered a traditional and symbolic animal. He said he had even mentioned in his election affidavit that he would campaign using a donkey.
Baitha said his priorities, if elected, would include reopening the closed sugar mill, establishing a university, and improving sanitation facilities in Gopalganj.
Many MPs win and then vanish to Delhi or Patna for five years. I am a local resident and will be available round the clock for the people,” he said.
The contest in Gopalganj between Alok Kumar Suman and Chanchal Kumar Paswan:
The main contest in Gopalganj is expected between NDA candidate Alok Kumar Suman and the INDIA bloc candidate Chanchal Kumar Paswan. Polling in this constituency will take place in the sixth phase on May 25.
