An American citizen was detained in Sitamarhi.

Patna, August 29: An American citizen named Christopher Jai Chew (57) was detained by security forces at the Indo-Nepal border in the Sitamarhi district of Bihar, an official said..

The arrest was made during a routine vehicle check by the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) at the Bhatta Mor check post. Chew was found without a passport or Visa while traveling from Patna to Janakpur Dham on the India-Nepal Maitri Bus.

“During the search of his belongings, we have found a bag containing several unusual items, including four aluminium parrots, three soap dishes, Indian currency worth 2330, a mobile phone, and some clothes, was recovered from him,” said Vishal Kumar, In charge of SSB unit at Sitamarhi check post.

The officer said that the mobile phone did not contain any information that could help to identify the identity of an American citizen. This has led to suspicion that he might have disposed of his actual phone.

The American citizen claimed he had been living in Delhi for the past 10 years, selling toys and clothes. He alleged that his passport and visa had been stolen twice but did not report these thefts to the authorities.

According to the American citizen, he had travelled by train from New Delhi to Patna and was on his way to Janakpur Dham, with plans to eventually reach Kathmandu airport, where a friend was supposed to meet him.

The lack of proper documentation and the suspicious nature of his journey have raised concerns about his identity and purpose for traveling to Nepal.

The Intelligence Bureau (IB) is set to question him further to ascertain more details about his background and intentions.
