Patna December 13, 2024: In a major reshuffle, Alok Raj, a 1989 batch IPS officer, was removed from his position as Director General of Police (DGP) after a brief tenure of 103 days.
He has been reassigned as the Director General cum Chairman Managing Director of Bihar Police Building Construction Corporation Limited.
Vinay Kumar, a 1991 batch IPS officer, who was previously associated with the same construction corporation has replaced Alok Raj. He is the new DGP of Bihar.
Known for his strictness and integrity, Vinay Kumar had been a contender for the DGP post earlier and was seen as a favourite this time around.
Alok Raj’s appointment in building construction department of Bihar police:
Alok Raj was appointed DGP in August 2024 after RS Bhatti, a 1990 batch officer, returned to the central deputation. Alok Raj’s appointment was reportedly influenced by key advisors of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Despite political circles anticipating Vinay Kumar’s selection.
Sources have said that the Bihar government was concerned about the deteriorating law and order situation and his removal could be related to it. This has been linked to the government’s preparation for the 2025 assembly elections.
Vinay Kumar’s Appointment:
Vinay Kumar’s selection is seen as an attempt to restore public confidence in the police force. His track record as ADG of CID, where he spearheaded several successful investigations, has positioned him as a reliable leader to address law and order challenges.

Reassignment of Jitendra Singh Gangwar:
Another significant transfer involved Jitendra Singh Gangwar, a 1993 batch IPS officer, who was moved to the Surveillance Investigation Bureau.
