Patna, September 11, 2025: All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), which had dented the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) prospects in the 2020 Bihar Assembly polls, is now making aggressive moves to secure a place in the INDIA bloc.

On Thursday, AIMIM state president Akhtarul Iman led a group of the party’s leaders to RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav’s residence at 10 Circular Road, Patna—this time carrying drums and posters urging for an alliance.

The AIMIM delegation was stopped outside the residence by security personnel.

However, they raised slogans and displayed posters reading: A positive initiative of AIMIM to stop scattering of secular votes.

Lalu-Tejashwi open ears, drums are playing at your door. Open your door for alliance, otherwise, your my equation will be exposed.”

AIMIM’s offer and demands:

Speaking to reporters, Akhtarul Iman said his party had already written to RJD and the INDIA bloc partners seeking to join the alliance, but received no response.

“We are consistently trying to ensure that minority votes are not divided. Despite RJD breaking away four of our MLAs in 2020, we are ready to join the alliance with a heavy heart. We want secular votes to remain united,” he said.

AIMIM has put forward three key demands, including six assembly seats in a seat-sharing agreement, the formation of Seemanchal Development Authority with a special package and reservation for Dalits and minorities proportional to their population.

Iman accused Tejashwi Yadav of ignoring his party’s repeated attempts at communication.

“We sent messages through RJD MLAs, but Lalu Prasad advised not to contest at all in the Assembly polls 2025.

Tejashwi Yadav claims he hasn’t seen our letter. Big people have thick skin, so today we came with drums to make sure he hears us,” Iman said.

Recalling the 2005 Assembly polls, he said: “At that time, Ram Vilas Paswan had offered support to Lalu Prasad if he made a minority CM, but Lalu refused. Today, the situation is the same—he accepts the BJP, but not the my party.”

Five seats in 2020:

In the 2020 Bihar Assembly polls, AIMIM won five seats in Seemanchal Amaur, Baisi, Kochadhaman, Bahadurganj and Jokihat.

However, within months, four MLAs left the party, leaving Iman as the lone legislator of the AIMIM.
