Patna, August 26: A pothole developed in the middle of a newly constructed flyover on Monday, raising concerns about the quality of construction and corruption in the infrastructure projects.
The pothole was highlighted by Mukesh Roshan, the RJD MLA from the Mahua assembly constituency in Vaishali district.
Roshan was traveling on the flyover when he noticed the pothole developed in the middle and promptly informed the district administration. To prevent accidents, he also placed a red flag on the flyover at Ramashish Chowk on National Highway 31 to alert the commuters. NH 31 is directly connected to Patna’s zero miles.
“We were crossing the bridge when saw a large pothole in the middle of the flyover. We have immediately informed the local authority to block the affected area to prevent accidents,” Roshan said.
“It is an indication of how rampant corruption is and how deeply rooted it is in the NDA government led by Nitish Kumar. This is not only a sign of corruption but also a potentially fatal hazard for commuters,” he said.
He further alleged that ministers, ruling party leaders and officials are taking 40% commission in these projects, leading to substandard construction.
“In the last couple of months, we have seen over 20 bridges and culverts collapse in Bihar’s several districts, and it is happening due to rampant corruption,” Roshan said.
The Mahua MLA also mentioned that the flyover became operational some 6 months ago and has not been officially inaugurated by the authorities. The other side of the flyover was constructed 20 years ago and has not deteriorated so far.
