Patna, September 4, 2025: Postal services in Bihar are set to undergo a major transformation with the construction of the state’s largest high-tech parcel hub in Gardanibagh, Patna.
Spread over five acres and being developed at the cost of Rs 20 crore, the high-tech parcel hub promises to bring speed, accuracy, and efficiency to the state’s postal network.
High-tech parcel hub for faster delivery at lower costs:
Currently, sorting of letters and parcels is being carried out at the Railway Mail Service (RMS) office at Patna Junction, which costs the department around Rs 3.5 lakh per month in rent.
Once operations are shifted to the new hub, thisexpense will be saved, while delivery timelines will shrink drastically.
Fully automated operations:
The new high-tech parcel hub will house an Advanced Mail Processing Centre (AMPC) machine, which will revolutionize sorting.
Once a letter or parcel is fed into the system, it will automatically get directed to trays based on the PIN Code and the DG PIN.
What once took hours of manual work will now be completed in minutes.
The real-time digital tracking will allow customers to monitor parcel movement end-to-end.
The high-tech parcel hub at Gardanibagh will serve as the command centre for Bihar’s entire postal network.
After sorting, consignments will be dispatched to smaller hubs operating in Patna, Gayaji, Muzaffarpur, Bhagalpur and other districts.
This will reduce wrong deliveries, save transit time, and improve efficiency for both e-commerce and personal parcels.
Boost for e-commerce and traders:
Officials highlighted that Bihar is witnessing rapid growth in e-commerce, with rising demand for timely delivery.
Farmers, small traders, and rural customers will especially benefit as delays and complaints will be reduced significantly.
The hub is also part of the Central Government’s Digital India initiative, which aims to modernize India’s postal services and make them globally competitive.
The Department of Post is working on an ambitious timeline to make the high-tech parcel hub at Gardanibagh operational by next year.
Once commissioned, it will bring Bihar’s postal service up to modern logistical standards, transforming the experience for lakhs of customers.
