Patna, May 31, 2024: In a shocking incident, a Block Development Officer (BDO) allegedly mowed down two women police personnel in Kaimur district during the early hours of Friday while driving under the influence of alcohol.
According to Kaimur SP Lalit Mohan Sharma, the accused BDO, identified as Brij Bhushan Kumar, was found to be intoxicated at the time of the incident.
BDO underwent medical examination:
A medical examination confirmed the presence of alcohol in his body. He has been arrested. Law is equal for all,” the SP said.
The victim—an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) and a constable—sustained serious injuries and were immediately shifted to BHU Medical College and Hospital, Varanasi, where they remain under medical supervision.
The incident took place near the Kewa Canal under the jurisdiction of the Chainpur police station.
The alleged BDO was deployed at Chainpur block:
Police said that the BDO, who was posted at Chainpur block, was driving his private vehicle from Bhabhua to Chainpur when he was signaled to stop by a police team.
Instead of halting, Kumar allegedly sped away in a bid to flee, hitting the two women officers.
Kumar has been booked under the charges of rash and negligent driving and the relevant provisions of the Bihar Prohibition and Excise Act.
Police officials have confirmed that further investigation is underway to determine the exact sequence of events leading to the incident.
