Patna, August 9, 2025: On the occasion of Rakshabandhan, former Bihar Chief Minister Rabri Devi continued her long-standing tradition of tying a rakhi to her adopted brother and party MLC Sunil Kumar Singh.
Wishing him a long life and prosperity, Rabri Devi visited Singh’s residence to perform the ritual, as she has done for years.
Sunil Kumar Singh, RJD’s state treasurer and former Biscoman chairman, is considered one of the most trusted members of Lalu-Rabri camp, both politically and personally.
Rabri Devi maintained distance from her real brothers:
Their relationship, which Rabri Devi describes as “like family,” stands in stark contrast to her strained ties with her real brothers, Sadhu Yadav and Subhash Yadav.
The two have been out of touch with her since the Lalu-Rabri era ended, and no rakhis exchange took place between them this year either.

Political observers noted that Rabri Devi’s annual gesture towards Sunil Singh underscores that deep bonds can be formed outside blood relations, while familial ties may weaken over time.”
Tej Pratap Yadav celebrates Rakhi with his cousin sister:
Meanwhile, RJD MLA and Rabri Devi’s elder son, Tej Pratap Yadav, marked the festival in a low-key manner this year. Living separately from Lalu family, he celebrated with his cousin sister Dr Pinky Kumari, sharing photos on social media and thanking her for tying him a rakhi.
Tej Pratap, who has seven real sisters, including Misa Bharti, Rohini Acharya, Ragini Yadav and others, received some rachis by post from sisters who could not be present.

He also connected with his four sisters, Hema Yadav, Ragini Yadav, Chanda Yadav and Anushka Yadav, over video calls to thank them.
In contrast, Tej Pratap’s younger brother and former Deputy CM, Tejashwi Yadav, spent Rakshabandhan in Delhi.
