Patna, August 8, 2025: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday targeted RJD Chief Lalu Prasad Yadav and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for opposing the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list, asserting that the Constitution does not grant voting rights to those not born in India.
Addressing a public meeting in Sitamarhi, Shah said, “ Rahul Gandhi is roaming around with the Constitution book, but I want to tell him to read it carefully. Infiltrators have no right to participate in our elections. They are your vote bank that is why you are protesting. Stop the vote ban k politics.”
Shah reminded the Congress that voter list revision was first initiated by his great-grandfather, Jawahar Lal Nehru, and accused the opposition of preemptively blaming SIR for their likely defeat in the 2025 Bihar Assembly polls.
“Lalu, Tejashwi, and their allies are scared because SIR will remove intruders from the rolls. As long as the Narendra Modi government is in power, your efforts to make infiltrators citizens will fail,” he said.
Amit Shah claimed the Modi government has given Rs. 83 thousand crore to Bihar this year:
Responding to RJD’s question about the Centre’s work for Bihar, Amit Shah said Prime Minister Modi has visited the state six times this year and sanctioned projects worth Rs. 83,000 crore.
Shifting focus to regional pride, Amit Shah said the NDA government had honored Mithila’s heritage in multiple ways.
He cited the Padma Bhusan award given to “Bhar Kokila” late Sharda Sinha in 2018, and the posthumous Padma Vibhushan in 2025. He noted that former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee had included Maithili in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution, while PM Modi had further promoted Maithili art and culture.

Speaking at the Bhoomi Pujan for the Rs. 882.87 crore redevelopment of Maa Sita’s birthplace at Punaura Dham, Shah praised Mata Sita as an embodiment of the ideal wife, daughter, mother, and Rajmata.
Amit Shah flagged off the Amrit Bharat train:
He also flagged off the Sitamarhi—Delhi Amrit Bharat Express, which will benefit Raxaul, Narkatiaganj, Bagaha, and Sitamarhi.
Calling the day “auspicious,” Shah recalled the Ramayan-era legend of Maa Janaki’s appearance from the earth after a golden plough was used to invoke rain.

“Today, during the Bhoomi Pujan, rain again blessed us. This is a good omen not only for Bihar, but for the entire country,” he said.
Mithila’s culture, Shah added, “Is not just the pride of Bihar, but a unique jewel of Indian heritage.”
