Patna, July 17, 2025: Union Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai welcomed and congratulated the Nitish Kumar-led NDA government’s decision to provide 125 units of free electricity to around 1.86 crore families in Bihar, calling it a historic step directly benefiting the poor and middle class of the state.
“This is an important step towards realizing the resolution of a developed Bihar, and it cannot be praised enough, “Rai said, adding that the NDA government takes decisions focused on development, progress, and prosperity, which the opposition cannot digest.
Criticizing opposition parties, Nityanand Rai said: “Some political parties only make claims and promise but do not fulfill them. Their aim is to re-establish jungle raj in Bihar. But the NDA government, working under PM Modi and CM Nitish Kumar, is committed to the prosperity of 13 crore people in Bihar.”

Nityanand Rai highlighted PM Narendra Modi’s scheduled visit to Champaran, Bihar, on July 18, stating that the Prime Minister “always brings a big package for Bihar’s development, helping infrastructure growth and employment generation.”
Vijay Sinha: big relief for the poor:
Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha also lauded the decision, calling it a pro-poor initiative under the double-engine government of PM Modi and CM Nitish Kumar.
‘Our government has increased the social security pension from Rs. 400 to Rs. 1,100 and is now providing free electricity of 125 units per month to 1.67 crore consumers in Bihar,” Sinha said

He clarified that out of 1.86 crore total domestic consumers in Bihar, around 1.67 crore consume less than 125 units and will get complete relief, while the remaining consumers will also receive 125 units free and pay only for usage beyond that.
He added that the state government provides an 80% subsidy in the energy sector, ensuring relief to poor and middle-class families while supporting Bihar’s development goals.
