Tejashwi Yadav alleges voter list revision in Bihar is a conspiracy against the poor.

Patna, June 27, 2025: Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav has launched a sharp attack on the central government and the Election Commission of India, alleging that the sudden revision of the voter list ahead of the Bihar Assembly Election 2025 is a deliberate attempt to disenfranchise the poor and youth.
In a joint press conference at his residence, Tejashwi Yadav was accompanied by Bihar Congress President RajeshRam, Congress National Spokesperson Pawan Khera, and CPI(ML) General Secretary Dipankar Bhattacharya, indicating a united opposition front on the issue.
“The fresh voter list revision in an election year is a “dangerous signal for democracy. The process will snatch voting rights from the poor who lack documents like birth certificates of parents, citizenship certificates, Aadhar cards, MNREGA cards and others,” Yadav said.
“Why is there a sudden need to revise the voter list after 22 years? The last time in 2003, this process took two years. Will it be done in two months now? “Tejashwi Yadav stated.
Tejashwi Yadav’s concerns over timing:
Tejashwi Yadav highlighted that Bihar is currently facing rain and flood conditions, making it difficult for poor citizens to gather and submit documents door-to-door.
Tejashwi linked the process to the RSS, referring to a recent remark by a senior RSS leader questioning the Constitution.
“All this is a well-planned conspiracy aimed at excluding the poor and youth from the voter list,” Yadav said.

Tejashwi explained the new process will divide citizens into three age groups, each with complex documentation demands.
The 18-20 years voters will be need birth certificates (self and parents) and their citizenship documents. 20-39 years voters require citizenship documents and parents’ documents and 39 years and above require self-citizenship proof.
He argued these requirements are impractical for the poor and will systematically prevent them from voting.
Doubts over the Election Commission’s impartiality:
Tejashwi Yadav further questioned the neutrality of the Election Commission, noting that: “The same officers who conducted the 2024 Lok Sabha elections are overseeing this process, raising serious doubts about their impartiality.”
Tejashwi’s allegations come at a politically sensitive moment, with the Bihar assembly Election approaching and NDA leaders showcasing development and law-and-order narratives.
The voter list revision, if mishandled, could become a flashpoint issue in the state, especially if opposition parties frame it as a tool to exclude vulnerable sections.
