Ten people were injured due to a balcony collapse in Chapra.
Patna, September 4: Ten people were injured in a tragic incident that occurred in Bihar’s Chapra district after a balcony made of tin shade collapsed during an orchestra performance at the Mahaveeri Akhara late on Tuesday night.
The accident took place around 11.30 pm during a fair in the Isuapur block of the district, which had drawn a large crowd.
According to Dr Kumar Aashish, the Superintendent of Police (SP) of Saran, ten people sustained minor injuries and were treated at the Isuapur Community Health Center before being discharged.
“The mishap occurred when a large number of people crowded onto the balcony of house, causing it to collapse under the weight. The victims sustained minor injuries and scratches and were admitted to Common Health Center CHC in Isuapur and all ten people were discharged after preliminary treatment,” Aashsih said.
Eyewitnesses have said that many people were also gathered on the ground below. When the balcony collapsed, those who fell were cushioned by the crowd below, which helped prevent more serious injuries. Fortunately, the debris did not fall on the people standing on the ground, averting further casualties.
“The police personnel of Isuapur police station were already deployed at the fair and they immediately initiated a rescue operation when the incident occurred. This swift action helped ensure that the situation was managed effectively,” he said.
This incident has raised concerns about the safety measures at large gatherings, particularly during popular community events like Mahaviri Mela, a religious procession held annually in every district of Bihar.
