Bharat Bandh has a widespread impact in Bihar.

Patna, August 21: The Bharat Bandh on Wednesday has significantly impacted the normal life of Bihar across several districts of Bihar.

In one such incident at Darbhanga railway station when protestors stopped the Darbhanga-New Delhi Bihar Sampark Kranti Supar fast train.

The members of the Bhim Army, holding the posters and banners, took to the railway tracks and even climbed onto the engine of the train. The protestors argue that there is a deliberate conspiracy to deprive SC and ST communities of the rights guaranteed to them by the Indian Constitution.

The protestors have blocked the National Highway 83 in Jahanabad district. This highway is a crucial link between Patna, Gaya and further Dobhi on National Highway 19. They have burnt tires on the road. The district police initiated a mild Lathi Charge to disperse them.

The Bharat Band, aimed at protecting the rights of SC and ST, received support from the INDIA bloc’s alliance partners, including the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP) and various social organizations like the Bhim Army.

This blockade is a part of the larger protest that has significantly disrupted normal life across several cities including the state capital, Patna.

As a result of the Bharat bandh, people in Patna and other affected areas are facing considerable difficulties. Many are seen waiting helplessly for passengers’ vehicles, with some resorting to walking long distances to reach their destinations due to the scarcity of transport. The roads are mostly empty, with only a few vehicles in operation.

The Bharat Bandh has led to the closure of numerous private schools in Patna with those that remain open suspending their bus services, creating additional challenges for students and parents.

The Bharat bandh, a response to concerns over the rights of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes has been intensified by a recent Supreme Court verdict that has ignited widespread debate.

The Supreme Court’s ruling suggests that not all SC and ST communities face the same level of disadvantage. It grants state governments the authority to further classify these communities and potentially create separate quotas for those deemed more backward within the SC and ST categories.
