Patna August 5: Around fifty villagers were trapped in the middle of Son River due to sudden rise of water level of Son River in Bihar Rohtas district, an official said.
An official of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) said that the rescue operation is underway to bring the villagers on the main land.
According to an official, the water level at the Indrapuri Barrage was 29000 cusecs by Saturday evening to 3.16 lakh cusec on Sunday night. To manage to reduce the pressure, authorities have opened all 65 gates of the barrage, releasing additional water.
However, the sudden rise of water levels has created life threatening situations for at least fifty villagers living in Nauhatta, Sondiha, Navdiha, Amahua and other villages located on the either side of Son River in Rohtas district.
These villagers, who had ventured to high-lying areas that formed islands in the river during summer’s low water levels for farming and cattle grazing, became trapped by the sudden influx of water.
The sandy riverbeds of Son are ideal for watermelon, Arhar pulse, tomato, and green vegetables, making these islands popular destination for farming.
