Ranchi June 14: Three persons including a woman died and one was injured in a tragic train mishap in Jharkhand’s Latehar district on Friday evening.
Latehar district magistrate Garima Singh confirms the incident. She said that the incident occurred at around 8 pm on Friday.
The incident occurred at Kunmdih railway station on the Barkakana-Barwadih rail section.
“The mishap took place after some persons spread a rumor about the engine of the Ranchi-Sasaram Intercity express train caught fire. It has created panic among the passengers and they jumped from the train in a bid to save themselves,” Singh said.
“Some of the passengers went on the other side of the track and a goods train came at the same time on that track. Three persons including two males and one female passenger came under the impact of the goods train. They were died on the spot while a minor girl also injured in this mishap. We are making efforts to bring her to the nearby hospital for the treatment,” Singh said.
Sources have said that some more persons may injured in this mishap and the death toll may rise later on.
The officials of the district civil and police administration along with railway officials are conducting a rescue operation.
