Three persons were killed and one injured in a train mishap in Jharkhand’s Latehar district.

Ranchi, June 14, 2024: Three passengers, including a woman, were killed and one minor girl was injured in a tragic train mishap in Jharkhand’s Latehar district on Friday evening.

According to Latehar Deputy Commissioner Garima Singh, the incident occurred around 8 pm at Kumdih railway station on the Barkakana-Barwadih rail section.

“The mishap occurred after rumors spread that the engine of the Ranchi—Sasaram Intercity Express had caught fire, triggering panic among passengers,” Singh said. “In a bid to save themselves, several passengers jumped off the train. Some moved to the other track, where a goods train was passing simultaneously, leading to the tragedy.”

Three passengers—two men and one woman—died on the spot, while a minor girl sustained injuries and is being shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment, officials said.

District administration, police, and railway officials have launched rescue operations. Sources said the number of injured could rise as the situation is being closely monitored.
