Patna, May 29, 2024: With more than 50 students reportedly falling ill due to extreme heat conditions in Bihar, leaders across political parties have strongly criticized KK Pathak, Additional Chief Secretary of the Education Department, for not declaring summer vacations in government schools.
Leaders across the parties criticized KK Pathak for his unrealistic approach:
BJP MLC Nawal Kishore Yadav lashed out at KK Pathak, accusing him of being insensitive and unfit for the post.
“The mental status of K. K. Pathak is not good. KK Pathak has nothing to do with children, education, or teachers. KK Pathak has gone insane. After June 4, I will request the Chief Minister to send him to a mental hospital for treatment,” said Yadav. Vikasheel Insaan Party (VIP) chief Mukesh Sahani also slammed the education official for his “inhuman” decision to keep schools open amid the soaring temperatures.
“Amid intense heat, K. K. Pathak is harassing teachers and students. We once thought he was a good officer, but his recent decisions are extremely wrong. He is just trying to establish dominance in the department,” Sahani said, urging Chief Minister Nitish Kumar to intervene immediately.
Leader of the Opposition Tejashwi Yadav accused the government of allowing bureaucrats to act with impunity.
“Officers in Bihar are behaving arrogantly and not listening even to the Chief Minister. Bureaucratic arbitrariness is at its peak. There is no democracy left in Bihar,” he said.
LJPR chief Chirag Paswan also demanded urgent government action, stressing that the well-being of students should be the top priority.
“Children are suffering due to the heat. The government must act immediately. Summar holidays should be announced at once, and any officer creating obstacles must be held accountable,” Paswan stated.
Met department predicted high temperature in many districts:
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), temperatures in districts such as Aurangabad and Sheikhpura have touched 47 degrees Celsius, causing widespread distress.
Despite the severe heatwave, government schools have remained open, with classes starting as early as 6 am.
Parents have complained that children, often leaving home on an empty stomach, are becoming victims of dehydration and heat exhaustion. On Wednesday alone, around 20 students fainted in Begusarai, 25 in Sheikhpura, and two in Motihari, raising alarm over the government’s inaction.
