Patna, February 16, 2026: To assess the Rajgir sports complex, a high-level review meeting was held on Monday, headed by Kumar Ravi, Secretary of the building construction department, to accelerate construction works.

The review focused on the under-construction cricket stadium, multi-purpose halls, and cycle velodrome.

During the meeting, the secretary reviewed the progress of the Rajgir cricket stadium, multi-purpose hall, and cycle velodrome and directed the Executive Engineer and the executing agency to significantly speed up construction.

He expressed strong displeasure over delays in the remaining works of the cricket stadium, particularly the General Stand West (G+2), General Stand East (G+2), and Reverse Pavilion (G+2).

The agency was also instructed to immediately increase manpower at the construction site.

Key directions on Rajgir cricket stadium infrastructure:

The Secretary informed that four high-mast lights are to be installed at the Rajgir cricket stadium.

He directed officials to obtain prior approval from the Board of Control for Cricket in India to ensure compliance with international match standards.

He also reviewed pitch preparation progress and stated that five practice pitches would be ready by February—two made of red soil and three of black soil—for players’ training.

Kumar Ravi also reviewed the construction of three multi-purpose indoor halls at the sports complex and directed that the works be completed at the earliest to facilitate indoor sporting events.

The construction of the cycle velodrome was also reviewed, with instructions to expedite the work.

Special emphasis was laid on maintaining cleanliness across the project site.

The Rajgir cricket stadium, being constructed over approximately 18 acres, has already seen the completion of the ground and main pavilion.

The built-up area of the stadium is 52,318 square metres, and it has been inaugurated by the Chief Minister.

Pitch preparation has been carried out under the supervision of the BCCI’s Chief Curator.

A total of 13 international-standard pitches have been prepared—six using red soil from Pune, Maharashtra, and seven using black soil from Mokama, Bihar.

The stadium is being developed with world-class facilities and will accommodate around 40,000 spectators.

A modern drainage system has been installed to ensure quick water discharge during the monsoon season.

Construction is being carried out keeping in view all essential facilities for players, spectators, and officials.

Special arrangements include exclusive stands in the main pavilion for coaches, managers, players’ families, and VVIP guests, along with a dedicated media and commentary gallery.

Additional facilities include players’ and umpires’ lounges, press conference room, VIP seating, dressing rooms, coach and physio rooms, gym, spa, third umpire room, conference room, score room, camera platforms, and adequate sanitation facilities.

Essential infrastructure such as scoreboards, sound systems, water supply, fire alarm and firefighting systems is also being installed.

Camera platforms and TV and radio commentary rooms will further enhance broadcast quality.

Towards national and international matches:

Senior officials and engineers of the Building Construction Department are continuously monitoring the project to ensure quality construction.

Being developed under BCCI supervision, the stadium will be fully capable of hosting national and international cricket matches.

The facility is expected to provide local players with access to world-class training and match conditions, enabling young cricketers from Bihar to showcase their talent on national and global platforms.
