Patna, January 11, 2026: Union Food Processing Minister Chirag Paswan on Sunday criticized Leader of the Opposition in the Bihar Assembly, Tejashwi Yadav, for his absence from the state following the Bihar Assembly election defeat.
Addressing media persons in Patna, Paswan said that Tejashwi Yadav’s conduct was demoralizing for Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) workers and supporters.
“I am not objecting to Tejashwi Yadav taking a vacation with his family. But he is sitting on a constitutional post. Leaving Bihar in the middle of the Assembly session is not wise. It is a discouraging act for RJD supporters and workers,” Chirag Paswan said.
He added that instead of analyzing the reasons for the party’s defeat and sharing his stand after the election results, Tejashwi Yadav chose to leave Bihar during an ongoing Assembly session.
“After the 2020 Bihar Assembly election, when our party lost, I came before the media the very next day, accepted the defeat, and explained the reasons behind it. RJD lost miserably in the 2025 Assembly elections, but Tejashwi Yadav has not done the same,” Chirag Paswan said.
Chirag Paswan claims RJD survives due to his own party, LJP, and Nitish Kumar:
Taking a swipe at the RJD’s political history, Paswan said the party has struggled since losing power in 2005.
“The condition of RJD has been miserable since 2005. In 2010, the NDA won convincingly. In 2015, Nitish Kumar gave new life to RJD and helped it consolidate its position. In 2020, I gave life to RJD,” he claimed.
Paswan further stated that had the NDA contested the 2020 elections unitedly, the results would have been similar to those of 2025.
“If my stance in the 2020 election had been different and the NDA had contested together, the results would have been similar to 2025,” he said.
On the poaching of MLAs:
Reacting to questions about breaking opposition MLAs, Paswan said the NDA’s position is strong, and there is no need to resort to such tactics.
“I am always against breaking any Party or MLAs. However, I must say that many MLAs from RJD and Congress are showing interest in joining us,” Paswan said.
He added that RJD MLAs, in particular, are angry with Tejashwi Yadav over his approach and strategy during the Bihar Assembly elections.
“The RJD MLAs are unhappy with the way Tejashwi Yadav contested the elections and handled the party after the defeat,” Paswan added.
On the issue of infiltrators, Paswan took a firm stand, stating, “Any individual who is not a native of our country should be expelled. Voting rights cannot be granted to foreign nationals.”
