98 lakh, 60 thousand 397 voters will decide the fate of 54 candidates in the third phase of the LS poll in Bihar.
Patna May 7: The polling for the third phase of the Lok Sabha election started in Bihar and 54 candidates are in the fray on the five seats. Their fate will be decided by 98 lakh, 60 thousand 397 voters in these five constituencies.
The voting started at 8 am on Tuesday and long queues were seen in several polling stations in Supaul, Araria, Jhanjharpur, Madhepura and Khagaria Lok Sabha constituencies.
The main contest in those five seats is NDA and grand alliance. Interestingly, the NDA has given the tickets to four sitting MPs while the grand alliance has given the tickets to first-timer candidates in all five constituencies.
In Supaul, the NDA has given the ticket to a sitting MP. Dileshwar Kamat is contesting here on the ticket of JD-U. He is contesting against grand alliance candidate Chandrahas Chaupal. He is a legislator in the Bihar assembly and is contesting the Lok Sabha election for the first time on the ticket of RJD. The total voters in Supaul are 19 lakhs 27 thousand 207 including 9 lakhs, 96 thousand 756 males, 9 lakhs 30 thousand 410 females and 41 third genders.
Pradeep Singh, the sitting MP of BJP is in the fray of the Lok Sabha election from Araria. He will contest against Shahnawaz Alam of RJD. Shahnawaz Alam is a MLA from Jokihat constituency and is contesting the Lok Sabha election for the first time. Araria has 20 lakhs 18 thousand 767 total voters including 10 lakhs, 49 thousand, 982 males, 9 lakhs 68 thousand 691 females, and 94 third genders.
In Jhanjharpur, Rampreet Mandal is contesting as an NDA candidate on the ticket of JD-U. He is a sitting MP from this seat and contesting against Suman Mahaseth of VIP. Suman Mahaseth is an ex-MLC and also contested the assembly election but lost. He is contesting the Lok Sabha election for the first time. Jhanjharpur has a total of 20, lakh 03 thousand 040 voters including 10 lakhs, 45 thousand 444 males, 9 lakhs 57 thousand 507 females and 89 third genders.
In Madhepura, Dinesh Chandra Yadav of JD-U is contesting the Lok Sabha election. He is a sitting MP and defeated Sharad Yadav in the Lok Sabha election 2019. RJD has given the ticket to Kumar Chandradeep Yadav. He is also contesting the Lok Sabha election for the first time. The total numbers of voters in Madhepura are 20 lakhs 71 thousand 166 including 10 lakhs, 74 thousand 259 males, 9 lakh 96 thousand 857 females and 50 third genders.
Khagaria is the only seat where both NDA and Grand Alliance have given the tickets to first-time candidates. This seat went to LJPR after seat sharing in NDA and the party has given the ticket to Rajesh Verma. He was the LJPR district president of Bhagalpur. Verma is contesting against CPM candidate Sanjay Kumar. Sanjay is also contesting the Lok Sabha election for the first time. Khagaria has 18 lakhs 40 thousand 217 total voters including 9 lakhs 63 thousand 032 males, 8 lakhs 77 thousand 137 females and 48 third genders.
