Patna, April 26, 2024: Polling gained momentum by late morning in five Lok Sabha constituencies of Bihar—Purnea, Katihar, Kishanganj, Bhagalpur, and Banka—with the Election Commission reporting a 21.68% turnout till 11 AM on Friday.
Enthusiastic voters were seen lining up outside voting booths as the day progressed.
Purnea has a higher number of polling:
Purnea recorded the highest turnout of 25.90%, where a triangular contest is underway between Santosh Kushawah (JD-U), Bima Bharti (RJD), and independent Pappu Yadav.
Katihar registered 22.65% turnout, with Dulal Chandra Goswami (JD-U) facing Tariq Anwar (Congress).
Kishanganj saw 21.94% polling, featuring a three-way fight between Mohammad Jawad (Congress), Mozahid Alam (JD-U), and Akhtarul Iman (AIMIM).
Bhagalpur reported 19.27% turnout, where Ajeet Sharma (Congress) is challenging Ajay Kumar Mandal (JD-U).
Banka recorded a lower turnout of voters:
Banka recorded 18.75% turnout till 9 AM, with Girdhari Yadav (JD-U) up against Jay Prakash Narayan Yadav (RJD).
Voting will continue till 6 PM, and officials expect the numbers to rise steadily as the day progresses.
