
Katihar (Bihar) April 20: Katihar rail police seized Rs 52 lakh 48 thousand from an AC coach of Awadh Assam express train on Saturday.
Dr Sanjay Bharti, superintendent of rail police Katihar confirms the incident. He said that the alleged person named Anil Kumar was not carrying the valid documents related to the cash.
“As the matter was related to the income tax department, we have called its officers for the investigation as well. Questioning with the alleged person is underway but he has not given satisfactory answers and proper documents about such a high amount of cash,” Bharti said.
“Keeping in view of Lok Sabha election 2024, we have intensified checking in the trains. On Saturday, Awadh Assam express train reached platform number 6 of Katihar railway station. Our team searched the entire train and found 2 lather bags at berth number 44 of AC coach number A/2. We have also detained a person sitting on that berth,” Bharti said.
“During questioning, Anil Kumar, a native of Kanth village under Teghra police station in Madhubani district of Bihar, has not given satisfactory answers about the cash. The income tax officers Hareram Prasad and Prasun Kumar Jha also questioned him but he has not given a proper reply about the same,” he said.
“We have registered an FIR under relevant sections of IPC and further investigation is on,” he added.
Besides cash, railway police Katihar has also recovered one VIVO phone, an election voter card and a xerox copy of Aadhar card from his possession.
