10 BPSC candidates have healthy discussion with the chief secretary to resolve the exam controversy.

Patna December 30, 2024: A delegation of 10 BPSC candidates met Bihar Chief Secretary Amrit Lal Meena on Monday to discuss their concerns and seek a resolution of their demands.

BPSC candidates claimed talks happened positively:

After the meeting, the candidates described the discussion as constructive and positive. They stated that the Chief Secretary listened attentively and assured them that the government was seriously considering their demands.

The BPSC candidates have put 5 demands including the cancellation of the entire examination, withdrawal of FIRs, action on the police who initiated lathi-charge on the candidates and compensation of Rs 10 lakh to the family members of candidate Sonu Yadav.

Satyam Kumar, a candidate from Nalanda, said, “There was a very positive conversation with the Chief Secretary. He listened to all five points carefully and agreed on four points. However, he has not commented on the re-examination which is our main demand,” Satyam Kumar said.

However, the candidates emphasized that the agitation would continue until a definitive decision is taken. “Whatever decision the government takes, we will decide our next course of action accordingly. The agitation will persist until our demands are met,” said Anurag Kumar, a candidate from Nalanda who was part of the delegation.

Kumar further noted that Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is currently out of Patna, and any decision will likely be made only after his return. “No clear decision has been taken yet. The Chief Secretary has heard our demands, but the government has yet to act,” he reiterated.

BPSC candidates are demanding cancellation of the examination:

The controversy began on December 13 when candidates at the Bapu Examination Centre boycotted the 70th BPSC Preliminary test due to delays in the distribution of question papers. Videos showing mobile phone use and a lack of security inside the examination hall further intensified the protests.

In response, BPSC decided to cancel the examination at the Bapu Centre and reschedule it for December 4. However, students demanded the cancellation of the exam across all Centres, citing alleged irregularities.

On Sunday, the protests escalated as Patna police resorted to lathi charges and water cannons on candidates marching towards the Chief Minister’s residence under the leadership of Prashant Kishor.

Now in its 12th day, the protest has gained significant momentum, with support pouring in from political figures, student leaders, and coaching operators.
