Patna, June 14, 2024: The ongoing heatwave in Bihar is proving fatal, with three people—including two women—dying of suspected heat stroke in Nalanda district over the past 24 hours. The maximum temperature in the region has soared to 47 degrees Celsius, disrupting normal life and raising serious health concerns.
Three people, including two women, died due to heat stroke in Bihar’s Nalanda district.
Three people died due to heat stroke:
The first incident occurred in Madhavpur police station limits, where Sauja Devi, wife of Paras Singh, reportedly collapsed due to heat stroke after returning from the local market on Friday. A passerby informed her family using her mobile phone, and she was rushed to the hospital, where doctors declared her dead.
In another case, Rajendra Lohara, a native of Gumla in Jharkhand who had been working at a brick kiln in Khandha village under Parbalpur police station, also died of suspected heat stroke while on duty.
The third victim, Laxmini Devi (55), a resident of Baburbanna village, fell unconscious near Parbalpur market while returning from a medical visit on Thursday evening. She was taken to the local Primary Health Centre and later referred to Sadar Hospital, Bihar Sharif, where she died during treatment.
Police have conducted post-mortem examinations on all three families. Officials said that while preliminary findings point to three people deaths caused by heat stroke, formal confirmation from the district administration is still awaited.
Administration has issued an advisory for the residents:
Meanwhile, the Nalanda district administration has issued an advisory urging residents to stay indoors during peak hours, avoid prolonged exposure to the sun, and step out only for essential work.
With the mercury continuing to rise and no immediate relief forecast,
authorities fear the situation may worsen if preventive measures are not followed strictly.
