Tejashwi Yadav criticized the Nitish government over the dominance of bureaucracy.

Patna October 4, 2024: Tejashwi Yadav, the Leader of the Opposition in the Bihar assembly, criticized Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, highlighting the perceived dominance of bureaucracy over elected officials in the state.

His remarks came after a video went viral showing Valmikinagar MP Sunil Kumar Kushwaha, expressing frustration over bureaucratic indifference.

In the video, Kushwaha is heard saying, “I have been making calls since morning, but you are not picking up the phone. Such an attitude defames the government.”

Kumar was speaking to a junior officer during his visit to flood-affected areas in his constituency on Thursday.

Tejashwi Yadav used this incident to underscore what he sees as a systematic issue, suggesting that bureaucrats are indifferent to public representatives, even those from the ruling party.

“The dominance of bureaucrats is such that they do not even pick the phone of Lok Sabha MP. Sunil Kumar, the MP of Valmikinagar was looking helpless that even a junior officer had not picked up his phone,” Yadav said.

Tejashwi Yadav criticized the government’s response, pointing out that while ruling party leaders seem concerned about the government’s reputation, bureaucrats do not share this concern.

“CM Nitish Kumar has nothing to do with it. He doesn’t seek feedback even from his own party members, much less from the opposition,” Yadav said.

Meanwhile, Bihar is grappling with severe flooding, particularly in North Bihar, Kosi and Seemanchal regions, affecting over 1.5 million people.

Several major rivers, including the Gandak, Kosi, Baghmati, Burhi Gandak, Kamla Balan and Ganga, are flowing above the danger levels, adding to the crisis.

Tejashwi Yadav’s comments reflect concerns about the state’s administrative response to the disaster and indicating a disconnect between bureaucratic actions and the needs of public representatives during the crisis.
