Patna, June 15, 2024: Leader of the Opposition in the Bihar assembly, Tejashwi Yadav, on Saturday cited 13 recent crime incidents in Bihar and alleged that law and order in the state has deteriorated after the formation of the Narendra Modi government at the Centre.
Tejashwi Yadav targeted the Narendra Modi government:
In a post on social media platform X, Yadav claimed that crimes in Bihar were “government-sponsored” and alleged that murders, firing and bomb blasts were taking place frequently in several districts. He listed multiple incidents of shootings that he said occurred after June 4—including killings reported in Alamganj, Phulwarisharif, Neura, Khajekalan, Parsa Bazar, Bihta, AG Colony, Shahpur, Bakhtiyarpur, Chapra and Siwan. He said victims included youths, a student and a milk vendor, while in one case, a father-son duo on their way to court was shot dead in Chapra.
Yadav further alleged that “people of the Yadav caste are being selectively targeted” and claimed that this reflected “caste-linked crime.” He said the government had “failed to maintain law and order” and alleged that criminals in Bihar were “committing crimes under government protection.”
“In the NDA government of Bihar, criminals have only one worry—that while committing crimes under government protection, their pistols and guns should not run out of bullets,” he wrote on X.
Jitan Ram Manjhi criticized the previous RJD government:
The NDA hit back at the allegations.
Union Minister and Gaya MP Jitan Ram Manjhi asked Tejashwi Yadav to recall the situation under the previous RJD regime.
‘What was the situation before 2005? Criminals, after committing crimes, used to take shelter in the CM’s residence. Negotiations used to take place in the CM house,” Manjhi said.
Union Minister Giriraj Singh said linking crime with caste was not appropriate under any circumstances.
“Criminals are criminals, no matter which caste or community they belong to,” Singh said.
