Samrat Chaudhary criticized Tejashwi Yadav over Toddy’s remark and the liquor ban law.

Patna, April 28, 2025: Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary on Monday launched a sharp attack on Tejashwi Yadav over his recent comments regarding toddy and the state’s liquor prohibition law, questioning why Tejaswi did not oppose the law when it was enacted in April 2016.
Samrat Chaudhary reminded that at the time, the Grand Alliance (Mahagathbandhan) government was in power, with Nitish Kumar as the Chief Minister and Tejashwi Yadav as his Deputy, the liquor prohibition act was passed in both houses of Bihar assembly and became a law in the state.
Samrat Choudhary targeted Tejashwi Yadav for his dual stance:
Responding to media queries about Tejashwi Yadav’s allegation that the Nitish government is harassing Dalits and marginalized communities under the guise of the liquor ban law, Chaudhary said:
“When the liquor ban was being implemented, whose government was it? These people first sent people to jail and are now pretending to get them released.
His family first made laws to jail people and now talks about setting them free.”
Samrat Chaudhary further questioned: “Why didn’t they protest when the law was made? The law was passed when they were part of the government.
If Tejashwi Yadav had any issue, why didn’t he raise it then? First, they sent people to the Pasi community to jail, and now they are promising to release them.”
Samrat Chaudhary pointed out that neither Tejashwi Yadav nor the RJD had opposed the inclusion of toddy under the liquor ban during the Grand Alliance tenure.
Samrat Chaudhary stressed: “Neither Tejashwi Yadav nor RJD demanded at that time that toddy should be excluded from the prohibition law.”
Tejashwi Yadav promised to Pasi community to release them from jail:
Currently, Tejashwi Yadav has promised, during a rally organized by the Pasi community, that if his government comes to power after the 2025 elections, he will release all jailed members of the community and develop a toddy industry in Bihar.

Chaaudhary’s comments have intensified the political atmosphere, subtly targeting Chief Minister Nitish Kumar as well, indicating that no law could have been passed without his approval.
He also hinted that the BJP had no role in the formulation of the liquor ban law since, at that time; the government was a coalition between JDU and RJD.
Chaudhary’s remarks carry significant political implications, raising questions about the roles played by both Nitish Kumar and Tejashwi Yadav during the formulation and implementation of the controversial liquor prohibition law.
