Patna July 24: Rabri Devi, the former chief minister slammed Nitish Kumar for his objectionable comment about a woman lawmaker in the Bihar assembly on Wednesday.

Rabri Devi pointed out old habit of Nitish Kumar: The former chief minister stated that he has a habit of making such statements against women.

“We are very well aware of how much he (Nitish Kumar) respect to women. He always makes indecent comments about women. The people of the world had seen how he made abusive statements in both houses of the Bihar assembly last year. The people have mocked him,” Rabri Devi said.

“Nitish Kumar is a learned person. He should not make a statement like this,” the former chief minister said.

Rabri Devi’s party respects women: “My party always respects women. We have made ministers to women lawmakers.”

Earlier in the day, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar became angry during the proceedings of the assembly.

Bihar CM comment on RJD’s lawmaker: Nitish Kumar’s outburst came after women legislators from the opposition protested against him, leading to a heated exchange. He remarked MLA Rekha Devi, stating “You are a woman, you do not know anything,” sparked significant controversy and uproar within the Assembly. Rekha Sharma is a legislator of Rabri Devi’s party RJD.

Opposition legislators, particularly from RJD, Congress, and left parties, responded with loud slogans of “Nitish Kumar Hai Hai” in protest.

The context of this confrontation relates to the issue of reservation and special category status for Bihar. Rabri Devi headed the protest against the remark of Nitish Kumar.

The Bihar government had implemented a 65% reservation based on a caste-based survey. However, the Patna High Court turned down this reservation policy, deeming it unconstitutional. This decision fueled the opposition’s protests, leading to chaos in the Assembly when Nitish Kumar attempted to address the issue.

Kumar urged the opposition to sit and listen to the government’s stance, suggesting that the opposition would appreciate the efforts of the government if they understood the reasoning behind them.

A light moment during house proceedings: During Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s statement in the Bihar Assembly, opposition leaders continued to chant slogans against him, specifically targeting him with “Chief Minister Hai Hai.” In response, Nitish Kumar retorted by saying, “You are saying Hai Hai to me, then you people also Hai Hai.”

This remark elicited laughter from the assembly members. Despite the brief moment of humor, the opposition remained resolute and moved to the well of the House to continue their protest, demanding special state status and the reinstatement of the 65% reservation policy in Bihar.

The chaotic session in the Bihar Assembly saw Speaker Nand Kishore Yadav expressing his displeasure over the aggressive protests by the opposition members.

The protests had escalated, leading to a tense confrontation in the well of the House. In response, the Speaker ordered the removal of Congress MLA Munna Tiwari, which resulted in a physical altercation between the marshal and the MLA. The marshal, acting on the Speaker’s instructions, forcibly took a poster from Munna Tiwari’s hand.

Following these events, parliamentary affairs minister Vijay Chaudhary criticized the opposition, stating that their disruption over the reservation issue was baseless.

Vijay Chaudhary addressed the ongoing protests by the opposition in the Assembly, stating that the government has taken steps to challenge the Patna High Court’s decision in the Supreme Court. He emphasized the government’s commitment to defending its reservation policy and presenting a strong case in the higher court. However, he criticized the opposition for causing unnecessary disruptions within the Assembly, implying that their protests were not constructive.

Such an incident inside the Bihar assembly highlights the intense discord between the ruling party and the opposition in the Bihar assembly, particularly over the contentious issue of reservation and special status for Bihar.
