Patna, June 11, 2024: A furniture trader from Purnea has filed a complaint alleging extortion by newly elected MP Pappu Yadav and his close aide Amit Yadav.

The FIR, registered at Mufassil police station on Monday, has been filed under IPC Section 385, 504, 506, and 34, an official spokesperson of Purnea Police confirmed.

Pappu Yadav is facing alleged charges of threatening a businessman:

According to the FIR (No. 93/2024), the businessman has alleged that on June 4, 2024, Amit Yadav called him and demanded Rs 1 crore, threatening that he would have to “leave Purnea” if he did not pay the amount. He also claimed that the aide issued dire threats during the call. The complaint further alleged that the first instance of extortion dates back to April 2, 2021, when Pappu Yadav allegedly demanded Rs 10 lakh. He also claimed that during Durga Puja 2023, he received abusive phone and WhatsApp calls, during which a demand of Rs 15 lakh and two sofa sets was made.

Pappu Yadav’s aide allegedly called 10 to 15 times:

In another instance, during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the trader alleged that Amit Yadav called him repeatedly—10 to 15 times on April 5, 2024—and asked him to come to Arjun Bhawan, the residence of Pappu Yadav. He was allegedly asked to pay Rs 25 lakh at that time.

Police have begun an investigation into the matter. As of now, MP Rajesh Ranjan has not issued any response to the allegations.
