Patna, June 14, 2024: The JDU on Friday announced Kaladhar Mandal as its candidate for the upcoming Rupauli Assembly by-election in Bihar.
JDU state president announced the name of Kaladhar Mandal:
Announcing his name, JDU state president Umesh Kushwaha said the decision was made after consultation with Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, expressing confidence that Mandal would win the seat comfortably.
“There is no doubt about his activism in the party. We are confident he will achieve a historic victory,” Kushwaha told reporters in Patna.
The Rupauli seat fell vacant after JDU MLA Bima Bharti resigned ahead of the Lok Sabha elections. She contested from Purnea as the JDU candidate but lost to independent Rajesh Ranjan alias Pappu Yadav, finishing third.
Kaladhar Mandal earlier contested on the RJD ticket:
Kaladhar Mandal had earlier contested the 2020 Assembly election on an RJD ticket before joining the JDU ahead of the Lok Sabha polls.
The nomination process began on June 14, and polling will take place on July 10.
Last date for filing nominations June 21, Scrutiny of papers June 24, Withdrawal of nominations June 26, counting of votes July 13.
The Rupauli bypoll is expected to see a keen contest. The influence of newly elected MP Pappu Yadav may play a decisive role, as the candidate backed by him could gain a significant advantage.
