Former CM Rabri Devi criticized the Nitish government over reservation in constable recruitment.

Patna November 29, 2024: The opposition leaders  in Bihar, led by former CM Rabri Devi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council, staged a protest on the final day of the Legislative Council session, criticizing the Nitish Kumar government for alleged irregularities in the implementation of reservation rules in the constable recruitment examination.

Former CM Rabri Devi alleged state government failed to address the issue:

Former CM Rabri Devi accused the government of failing to honour its commitment to providing employment and raised concerns about the exclusion of eligible OBC candidates from reservation benefits in the recruitment process.

Former CM stated: “Reservation rule is not being followed even in the constable recruitment exam. There are vacancies in many departments, but the application for it has not been released yet. We are protesting today to open the eyes of the government.”

Similarly, RJD Legislative Councillor Abdul Bari Siddiqui emphasized the urgency of addressing these issues;

“The government should take a decision soon so that the reservation rule can be implemented in the recruitment exam. The current NCL, EWS certificate of the candidates successful in the constable recruitment will have to be accepted.”

The opposition highlighted not only the violation of reservation norms but also the government’s delays in initiating recruitment for existing vacancies in various departments. They vowed to continue their protest state-wide if the governments failed to act on their demands.

The protest led by former CM Rabri Devi was aimed at applying pressure on the Nitish Kumar government:

This protest adds to the mounting pressure on the Nitish Kumar-led government, which faces criticism over its handling of employment issues, particularly as Bihar heads towards assembly elections in the coming year. The opposition has leveraged these employment-related grievances to question the government’s accountability and effectiveness.

This protest forms part of a broader criticism of the state government’s inability to fulfil its promise of employing the youth, with opposition members demanding accountability and immediate action both inside and outside the House.
