Coaching institutes were given one month to rectify safety aspects.

Patna July 31: The coaching institutes of Patna were given one month to rectify safety aspects on Wednesday.

The decision was taken following the meeting of Patna District Magistrate Chandrashekhar Singh and members of the coaching institutes association on Wednesday.

“We have called a meeting of coaching institutions of Patna and stakeholders of the coaching association of Patna were present. They have urged us to give one month time which I have granted,” Singh said.

He further stated that failure to comply with safety parameters within the district would result in actions against the institutions, including the potential cancellation of their registration.

The move of Patna DM came in response to the tragedy in New Delhi’s Old Rajendra Nagar claimed three lives. The district administration of Patna has decided to inspect all coaching institutions on Monday with inspection has currently underway since Tuesday.

The inspection team headed by an SDM rank officer, has discovered many deficiencies in safety aspects.

The investigation team in Patna has been scrutinizing several aspects of the coaching institutes, including registration status, safety arrangements, compliance with building byelaws, availability of fire exit facilities, emergency operation services and others.

“We have found overcrowded classrooms in the majority of the coaching institutes. Besides, many of them have only one entry and exit gate, lack cross ventilation is also lacking in them and do not have safety equipment like fire extinguishers. Some of the coaching institutions have two gates but they are using only one gate for entry and exit. We have asked them to make both gates operational. Those with only one gate have been instructed to create an additional gate,” the Patna DM said.

Several coaching institutes in Patna operate in densely populated and highly congested areas such as Thakurbari Road, Makhania Kuan, Bhikhana Pahadi, Musallahpur Haat, Makhania Kuan, Khajanchi Road, Annie Besant Road, and other places.

“We have suggested them to establish coaching facilities on the outskirts of the city with all necessary safety parameters and modern facilities,” Singh said.

The coaching operators have demanded that their business be recognized as an industry. Since this matter is related to the state government, the decision will be taken by the relevant authorities,” Singh said.

The Patna DM has also said that no coaching institute was sealed so far.
