Chirag Paswan met Nitish Kumar to strengthen the NDA strategy for the Bihar elections 2025.

Patna, May 19, 2025: In a key political development ahead of the Bihar Assembly Elections 2025, Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) national president and Union Food Processing Minister Chirag Paswan met Chief Minister Nitish Kumar at his official residence in Patna on Monday.
The meeting is being seen as a crucial step toward finalizing seat-sharing arrangements and crafting the NDA’s broader electoral strategy in Bihar.
While no official statement has been released by either party, sources indicate that Chirag Paswan’s party is poised to receive a larger share of seats in the upcoming assembly elections.
The discussions reportedly covered candidate selection, regional caste alignments, and coalition strategy for the 243-seat Bihar Assembly.
Chirag Paswan said: “No vacancy for CM post in Bihar”:
Following the meeting, Chirag Paswan traveled to Darbhanga, where he addressed the media persons. In a strong show of support for Nitish Kumar, he declared: “We will contest the Bihar Assembly Election 2025 under the leadership of Nitish Kumar, and he will remain the Chief Minister of Bihar. There is no vacancy for the CM post.
Under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi and CM Nitish Kumar, Bihar is progressing at a rapid pace.”
Chirag Paswan also emphasized his party’s commitment to the alliance, stating he has no ambition to become Chief Minister and is focused on fulfilling the vision of his father, the late Ram Vilas Paswan.
From rivals to strategic allies:
The political journey of Chirag Paswan and Nitish Kumar has seen its share of tensions and alignments.
In the 2020 assembly polls, Chirag Paswan’s decision to contest independently led to contest defeat on several key seats. However, the 2024 Lok Sabha elections marked a turnaround, as both leaders aligned under the NDA banner.

Chirag’s party won five seats, including the prestigious Hajipur constituency, bolstering the NDA’s overall performance and contributing to Nitish Kumar’s rising profile within the alliance.
This recent meeting signals renewed synergy between the two leaders and lays the groundwork for a more coordinated alliance strategy going forward.
Balancing seats and castes:
The NDA’s biggest internal challenge remains seat distribution among its allies, the BJP. JD(U), LJP(RV), HAM, and RLJP. While JD(U) and BJP, as the dominant partners, are eyeing the largest shares, Chirag Paswan has clearly stated that his party expects a respectable stake in Bihar, similar to its satisfaction with the Chatra seat offered by the BJP in Jharkhand.
Sources suggest that the meeting between Nitish Kumar and Chirag Paswan included a detailed discussion on the regional caste equation, particularly targeting the Paswan (Dalit) vote bank. Which Chirag strongly influences.
Nitish Kumar’s administrative experience, paired with Chirag’s youth appeal, is being viewed as a strategic combination to broaden NDA’s voter base.
Chirag Paswan recently praised PM Modi for supporting the caste census calling it part of his father Ram Vilas Paswan’s long-standing dream.
